§ 6-2-2. Purpose of chapter.

  • The purposes of this chapter are to establish procedures and standards for the development and subdivision of real estate within the county and its municipalities in an effort to, among other things:

    (1)

    Encourage economically sound and stable development;

    (2)

    Assure the timely provision of required street, utilities, and other facilities and services to new land development;

    (3)

    Assure the adequate provision of safe and convenient traffic access and circulation, both vehicular and pedestrian, in and through new land development;

    (4)

    Assure the provision of needed public open spaces and building sites in new land development by dedicating or reserving land for recreational, educational, transportation, or other purposes;

    (5)

    Assure the wise and timely development of redevelopment of new areas, in harmony with the comprehensive plan for the county and its municipalities.
